A question we are often asked is how long do solar panel installations take? We usually aim to get them done within two days, but sometimes it will take less time and other times it may take longer. We’re going to break down the process so you can have a better idea of how long it might take.
How Are Solar Panels Installed?
A good place to start is to learn how solar panel installations are carried out. Assuming your panels are going to be placed on the roof, scaffolding may need to be erected. That can take a day to put up. However, there are steps that must be taken even before that happens. A surveyor will need to inspect your roof and rafters to ensure the panels can safely be mounted.
Once all that is out of the way, the rest of the process is quite simple. Anchors are attached to the roof, then the mounting system is set up. Then, the panels are secured to the mount. Once that’s done, the panels are connected to the inverter, which converts the current into usable energy.
Once the electrician is happy with the solar panel installation, they’ll carry out a series of tests to ensure that everything is working properly.
How Long Does Installation Take?
The installation itself doesn’t take very long. Connecting the inverter to the electrical system in your home is probably the most time consuming part of the process, taking around 5 hours to complete.
The pre-installation survey shouldn’t take too long, and could be carried out in advance in some cases.
Putting up and taking down the scaffolding is probably going to take longer than the solar panel installation process. Scaffolding often takes a day either side to erect and take down, so keep this in mind if you’re tight for time.
